What is HAN or P1?

  • Updated

HAN or P1 are different output ports that are located on the smart meter inside your home. Your smart meter will normally have either a P1-port or a HAN-port, depending on where you're located. HAN-port is most common in Norway. P1 is most common in Sweden and the Benelux region. Some countries have a mix of both. If you are uncertain, contact your energy provider.

Exceptional Information WarningPlease note that the HAN Equalizer and the P1 Equalizer are two different products and are not interchangeable. Before upgrading your electrical installation, it is important to confirm whether your smart meter has a Han port, or a P1 port. These ports use different communication protocols and different connector cables. Choosing the wrong Equalizer model will cause incompatibility issues.

The output provides real time information on your electricity consumption to the listening device - such as the Equalizer. The port is usually closed by default, so you will need to contact your grid owner to open it. If the port is closed, the Equalizer will not work.

While both HAN and P1 provide the same data, they do it through different communication methods. The most notable difference between HAN and P1 is that they use different connector cables to transmit the data to the listening device. The HAN-port uses a RJ45 connection, and we have made a special RJ45 to RJ12 cable for this. The P1 uses a normal RJ12 to RJ12 cable. The connection in the Equalizer is RJ12.
