Managing household electricity efficiently is increasingly important as electric vehicles (EVs) become more common. The Easee Equalizer is designed to protect your main circuit breaker from overload while allowing you to control and optimize total energy consumption. It works with both single- and three-phase installations, making it suitable for homes worldwide.

Since the Equalizer is not designed for stepwise power adjustment, achieving optimal results may require monitoring your household's energy usage and adjusting settings accordingly.

How Does the Equalizer Set a Limit?

The Equalizer sets limits using amperes (A). Within the Easee app, you can define a maximum current that should not be exceeded. Many grid operators measure electricity in kilowatts (kW), so understanding the conversion from amperes to kW helps you set the correct limit.

Conversion Formulas:

  • Single-phase (IT/TN): kW = (Volts × Amperes) / 1000
  • Three-phase IT: kW = (Volts × Amperes × √3) / 1000
  • Three-phase TN: kW = (Volts × Amperes × √3) / 1000

Example: 20A at 230V single-phase corresponds to approximately 4.6 kW.

Choosing the Right Limit

The ideal current limit depends on your household's electricity consumption and the desired maximum charging capacity. Many users select limits around 10 kW or 15 kW, but this varies depending on the home and EV. Due to voltage fluctuations, setting a slightly lower limit than your target is recommended. Single-Phase Homes

In single-phase installations, both the Equalizer and EV charger operate on a single phase.

  • To stay below 5 kW, set the limit to 20A (≈4.6 kW).

Three-Phase Homes

The Equalizer monitors and regulates only the phases used by the vehicle. If your EV does not support three-phase charging, only the active phase will be balanced.

  • Setting 20A allows the EV to charge at up to 20A on one phase (≈4.6 kW), while the other phases can still carry 20A each.
  • If the EV supports three-phase charging, you can lock it in three-phase mode. The Equalizer synchronizes power distribution across all phases.
