Smart Charging Information and Solutions

  • Updated

Smart Charging is available only in the UK and Ireland at this time.

Easee Smart Charging is a feature that integrates with your energy provider's tariff and allows you to create a smart charging schedule to minimize your energy costs. It connects to your energy provider's tariff information (if supported) and allows you to set a price cap for charging on a schedule.

Smart charging supports fixed tariffs, time-of-use tariffs, and some smart tariffs such as Octopus Agile. Intelligent Octopus Go and Ovo Charge Anytime Add On are currently not fully supported. With those two services, you will need to disable the smart charging schedule once the tariff service is connected with the provider.

Advantages of Smart Charging

There are two main advantages of using Easee Smart Charging: it ensures you are using the cheapest available electricity, and it uses the optimal maximum charging speed available.

By using time-of-use pricing and smart scheduling, drivers can save money by charging during off-peak hours when electricity is cheapest. Also Smart Charging takes into account power capacity, car charging capacity, and grid connection to use the optimal maximum charging speed available.

Further, the network operators can monitor charging remotely, and anticipate grid consumption, ensuring that a resilient energy system is always available.

Technical Requirements

Smart Charging works with all Easee chargers - the Easee One, the Easee Charge, the Easee Charge Core, and the Easee Charge Max. Everything you need is integrated in the Easee app.

Since your provider login is used in most cases when setting up Smart Charging, we ensure your data is completely safe and completely secure. Easee takes your data privacy seriously. We use industry-standard security measures to ensure the protection of your data.

Answers to Questions

I already have a price set and don't see the option to enter a tariff?

Press Edit in the top right of the charging price screen and either clear or update and then restart the process of entering your tariff.

Why isn't Smart Charging available for my tariff?

If you have a fixed price tariff then it is not possible to smart charge. However, you can still use the standard weekly schedule or delayed start to decide when you want to charge your car.

What if I don't know my contract end date?

You can skip this step if you are unsure by pressing Skip at the top right. Your other options are to contact your energy supplier or your energy supplier account to find out the contract end date for your tariff.

Can I use this if I have multiple chargers on the same site?

Tariffs are linked to a site level and only 1 tariff is allowed per site. You can have multiple chargers each on the same smart charging schedule or use the regular weekly schedule for different charging behaviour.

Can I override my smart charging schedule?

Yes, you can override the smart charging schedule as normal by tapping the middle blue button in the app to start charging.

My car didn't charge overnight, what went wrong?

Please ensure if you were using a schedule that it was activated and set up correctly. Ensure the car did not have its own schedule and is not connected to any third party service.

Will this work if I have a different operator?

No, only a site with Easee as the operator will allow smart charging.

What if I need to charge for longer than just the low tariff period?

You can either use the weekly schedule option or override the smart charging schedule after it has been completed.
