Firmware Updates on Easee Products
Firmware updates keep your Easee chargers and Equalizer secure, stable, and up to date with the latest functionality. All supported devices update automatically over-the-air (OTA) via the Easee Cloud โ there is no manual update button.
In this article you will learn:
- How automatic firmware updates work on Easee chargers and Equalizer.
- What is required for your device to receive and install updates.
- How to check which firmware version your device is running.
- What to do if your device does not seem to update.
Updates are rolled out in stages. It is normal that devices on the same site temporarily run different firmware versions.

Requirements for firmware updates
Easee devices are designed to update themselves, but some basic conditions must be fulfilled for firmware updates to download and install correctly.
Supported products
- Easee chargers.
- Easee Equalizer.
- Easee Equalizer AMP.
Network connection
- The charger must be connected to Wi-Fi or LTE.
- Equalizer must be connected to Wi-Fi.
Power supply
- The device must be continuously powered by a correctly installed electrical circuit.
- Do not power off the device during an ongoing firmware update.
Idle charging state (for chargers)
- Firmware is typically installed when the charger is not actively charging a vehicle.
- The update can be downloaded while charging, but installation is usually deferred until the charger is idle.
How firmware updates are applied
Firmware updates on Easee products are fully automatic. There is no manual โupdate firmwareโ button in the Easee App or the Easee Portal. The process is handled by the device and the Easee Cloud.
Automatic update flow
-
Device checks for updates
At regular intervals, the device contacts the Easee Cloud to check whether a newer firmware version is available for its model and configuration. -
Firmware is downloaded
When an update is available, it is downloaded quietly in the background. The device can usually continue normal operation during this step. -
Eligibility is verified
Before installing the firmware, the device verifies that it has power, a stable connection, and that no critical operations (such as charging) will be interrupted. -
Firmware is installed
The device installs the update automatically. It may temporarily restart as part of the process.
Staged rollout
- Updates are rolled out in stages across devices and sites.
- It is expected behaviour that some chargers receive the update earlier than others.
- Core functions, such as charging and load balancing, normally remain available during download.
How to check your firmware version
You can see which firmware version your charger or Equalizer is running directly in the Easee App or via the Easee Portal.
In the Easee App
- Open the Easee App.
- Select the relevant charger or Equalizer.
- Go to Settings โ About.
- The current firmware (software) version is shown in the device information section.
In the Easee Portal
- Log in to the Easee Portal.
- Select the correct site and choose the charger or Equalizer from the device list.
- The firmware version is displayed in the device details panel.
When to check the version
- When verifying that a known firmware fix has reached a specific device.
- When contacting support for troubleshooting.
- When comparing behaviour between devices with different firmware versions on the same site.
If your device does not update
If your device appears to remain on an older firmware version for an extended period, you can follow the steps below before contacting support.
1. Check network connection
- Confirm that the charger is connected to a working Wi-Fi network or has LTE coverage.
- For Equalizer, ensure it is connected to a working Wi-Fi network.
- If recently moved or reconfigured, verify that network details are still correct.
2. Restart the device
- Power-cycle the charger or Equalizer by switching the relevant circuit breaker or fuse off and back on.
- Wait a few minutes after the restart and then check the firmware version again later in the day.
3. Verify installation and configuration
- Ensure the device is fully installed and added correctly in the Easee App or Portal.
- Check that there are no unresolved installation errors or missing configuration steps.
4. Contact Easee Support
If the device still does not update after the steps above, contact Easee Support for further assistance. To speed up troubleshooting, provide:
- Device model and serial number.
- Current firmware version (from Settings โ About).
- Connection type (Wi-Fi or LTE, and whether Equalizer is used).
- A short description of the issue and what you have already tried.
Large sites and multiple chargers
- On multi-charger sites, updates may be deliberately staggered.
- It is normal that some chargers or Equalizers update earlier than others.
- As long as the devices are online and operating normally, they will receive the update when it reaches them in the rollout.
Frequently asked questions
Can I update the firmware manually?
No. Easee devices do not support manual firmware updates. All firmware is delivered and installed automatically from the Easee Cloud when the device is online and meets the update requirements.
Why does one charger have a newer firmware than another?
Firmware is rolled out in stages across devices and sites. It is expected that some chargers receive the new firmware earlier than others, even on the same location. Over time, all eligible devices will be updated.
Does a firmware update change my settings?
Firmware updates are designed to preserve your existing configuration, such as access control, charging limits, and schedules. If a change in behaviour is introduced by a firmware update, it will normally be documented in the release notes or product communication.
Will charging stop during a firmware update?
Installation is usually scheduled for moments when the charger is not actively charging. If a restart is needed, it is typically brief. The device will return to normal operation automatically after the update.
How often are firmware updates released?
Release frequency can vary. Some updates focus on stability and security, while others introduce new features or improvements. Your device will automatically receive relevant updates when they are made available for your model and region.
