Off-peak Charging (UK)

  • The off-peak scheduling changes in the UK is due to the Electric Vehicles (Smart Charge Points) Regulations in effect 30 June 2022 regarding EV charging systems.
  • Guidance in meeting these regulations came from the UK Office for Product Safety & Standards publication Complying with the Electric Vehicles (Smart Charge Points) Regulations 2021.
  • These regulations affect only charge points sold in Great Britain after the 29th of June 2022.

Off-peak charging is a setting that will only charge your vehicle during off-peak hours. By default, the charger will only charge during off-peak hours. You can adjust the setting to charge during peak hours if you want.

The current regulations define peak hours as 8am to 11am and 4pm to 10pm weekdays. There are no peak hours on weekends.

There is a randomly determined number of seconds, between 0 and 10 minutes, applied as a delay each time charging begins. For example, if the number is 540, then charging will start at 10:09pm. This offset of minutes is the same each time as long as you do not turn off Offpeak charging. If you deactivate Off-peak charging and then reactivate it, a new random number will be determined. As long as you remain in Off-peak charging, rather than Delayed Start or Week, the number of minutes delay will be the same.
