How Easee chargers work together
Understand local communication, charger roles and which products can share a circuit.
Several Easee chargers on one circuit coordinate charging locally. This article separates that local connection from Easee Cloud, explains the primary and secondary roles, and shows how the product group determines compatibility. It ends with the visible sign and safe recovery path for a lost local connection.

The key distinction Site type and product group are independent. Chargers can share one circuit only when they belong to the same product group.
01 Separate local communication from Easee Cloud
Start with the two connection paths. Easee Link coordinates chargers on the circuit; the cloud connection makes the installation available online.
Easee Link: local connection
The chargers communicate locally over radio. WiFi can provide an additional local communication path when it is available.
Easee Cloud: online connection
WiFi or LTE-M connects the installation to Easee Cloud. Losing internet access does not automatically interrupt the local Easee Link connection.
02 Understand the charger roles on a circuit
Once the local path is clear, the primary and secondary roles explain how communication and available charging power are coordinated.
Primary charger (Master)
Coordinates local communication and distributes the available charging power within the circuit.
Secondary chargers (Secondary Units)
Receive their available charging power from the primary charger on the same circuit.
Changing the primary charger is an installer task
The role is assigned during installation. An authorised installer can move it later in the Easee Installer App.

The roles operate within a circuit, but compatibility depends on the charger product group—not on whether the site is configured as SDU or MDU.
SDU or MDU site
Describes how the site is organised in Easee. SDU (Single Dwelling Unit) typically refers to a smaller private site; MDU (Multi Dwelling Unit) to a larger shared or commercial site.
SDU or MDU product
The charger model determines its product group and which other Easee chargers it can communicate and share power with on the same circuit.
Site type does not decide compatibility
An SDU product can be installed at an MDU site, and an MDU product can be installed at an SDU site. The charger model determines compatibility.
04 Choose products that can share a circuit
Use the product group to check both compatibility and the maximum number of chargers before planning or expanding the circuit.
SDU and MDU products cannot share one circuit
Use models from one product group within each circuit. A site can contain more than one circuit when the site design supports it.

Easee One belongs to the SDU product group but is market-specific. An MID or Eichrecht version of Charge Max or Charge Pro does not change its product group.
Why SDU and MDU products cannot share a circuitThe product groups use different communication architectures.
SDU and MDU products cannot form one common load-balancing group. An Equalizer does not change the charger product group. The maximum number of chargers applies per circuit.

The charger serial number identifies the model when the product name is not available.

After compatibility is correct, the light strip shows whether the primary and secondary chargers still have a local Easee Link connection.

Restore the local connection
Check the primary charger
Confirm that it has power and shows a normal light-strip status.
Restart the primary charger
Continue only if you are authorised to restart the charging circuit.
Restart the affected secondary charger
Wait until the primary charger has started first. At a managed or shared site, ask the site administrator or installer to perform both restarts.
Check the light strip again
Wait a few minutes for the local connection to return.
Expected result
The first LED stops flashing. In standby, one solid white LED identifies a secondary charger and two solid white LEDs identify the primary charger.
