Easee charger light patterns
Check whether your charger’s light is normal or needs attention.
The light strip shows what your charger is doing. Use this guide to find the pattern you see, understand what it means and check whether you need to act. Match the colour, movement and whether the whole strip or only the bottom light is lit. For a completely dark strip, go to No light →.
Steady: stays on. Pulsing: gradually brightens and dims. Flashing: blinks on and off.
The examples are vertical, like the strip on your charger. The animations illustrate movement, not exact timing.
White or blue light
Did the colour change after you held the touch button? Follow the Bluetooth connection guide →.
| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
|
One or two steady white lights at the bottom
|
Standby. The charger is ready. | No action needed. If a vehicle is connected and you expected charging to start, Check the charging status →. |
|
Steady white or blue light across the strip
|
Vehicle connected. Charging is not in progress. | No action needed if you are not expecting charging yet. Otherwise, Check the charging status →. |
|
White or blue light gradually brightens and dims
|
Charging in progress. | No action needed if charging is working as expected. If it is slower than expected, Check the charging limit →. |
|
White light blinks on and off across the strip
|
Approval needed. The charger is waiting for permission to charge. | Use an approved Easee Key, RFID tag or the charging method provided for this site. If you do not know which method to use, ask the person or operator responsible for the charger. If it turns red, use the access check below →. |
|
White light blinks rapidly across the strip after using a key or tag
|
Key check in progress. The charger is checking your key or tag. | Wait for the light to change. If it turns red, use the access check below →. If it keeps blinking, follow the key troubleshooting guide →. |
|
Only the bottom light blinks white
|
Connection between chargers unavailable. The charger is searching for the primary charger (Master) on the same circuit. | Ask the person managing the site to check the primary charger. If you manage the site, Check charger communication →. |
Red light
The next step depends on whether the red light blinks, gradually brightens and dims, or stays on. A brief red blink after trying to approve charging needs a different check from a red light that continues.
| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
Red light blinks on and off
|
Approval may have been rejected, or a fault needs attention. What happened just before it started helps you choose the next step. | Check red blinking → |
Red light gradually brightens and dims
|
A fault needs attention. The app warning helps identify the cause. | Check the fault warning → |
|
Steady red light across the strip
|
Charger error. The light alone does not identify the cause. | Stop using the charger if you hear warning sounds. Check the fault warning → |
What happened before the red blinking?
You just tried to approve charging, and there are no warning sounds
A brief red blink may mean that charging approval was rejected.
After using a key or tag: check that it is approved for this charger. Check your key or tag →
After trying to approve charging in the app: ask the person or operator managing charging access to check your permission. Seeing the charger in the Easee App does not by itself confirm permission to charge. Find who manages charging access →
Red blinking that continues needs the fault check below, even when it started after an approval attempt.
The blinking continues, started without an approval attempt, or comes with warning sounds
Stop trying to use the charger. This needs a fault check rather than another charging approval attempt.
Check the fault warning in the Easee App
Use this check for continued red blinking, a pulsing red light or a steady red light.
High temperature reported: Follow the temperature guidance →
Another specific warning: Follow the matching error guidance →
No useful warning, no app access, or the fault remains after the guidance: Contact Technical Support →.
Do not try to clear a red fault with repeated restarts or force a locked cable.
Yellow light
| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
|
Only the bottom light blinks yellow
|
Waiting for configuration. Installation setup needs to be completed. | Contact the installer or the company responsible for the installation. Adding the charger to the Easee App does not complete installation setup. |
Green light
| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
|
Green light starts at the bottom and fills the strip upwards
|
Software update in progress. The fuller the green strip, the further the update has progressed. | Wait for the update to finish. Once it is complete, the strip is no longer green. |
No light on the strip
A dark strip can be related to the charger’s settings or a power problem. Start by checking whether the charger responds; an offline status alone does not tell you why the strip is dark.
If the Easee App already confirms that the charger is online, go straight to the settings check below. Otherwise, press and hold the touch button above the light strip for at least five seconds. Listen for a tone and look for a light response.
Holding the touch button also disconnects other devices using the charger’s Bluetooth connection.
The charger responds, or the app confirms it is online
A tone or light response shows that the charger reacts to the button. It does not confirm that charging works or explain why the strip was dark.
In the Easee App, check whether the charger is deactivated and check the LED brightness. A deactivated charger has no light and will not charge. Deactivation is different from switching off the power.
For an offline charger, use Bluetooth to check locally. You need an account with access to the charger. Connect locally with Bluetooth →
If settings are unavailable or you do not have access, ask the site owner or charging operator to check them.
The settings explain the dark strip
Follow the settings guide or ask the person managing the charger to make any intended change. No power-loss troubleshooting is needed for an explained setting.
Once the charger is active, use the charging-status guide if charging does not start or has stopped. Check the charging status →
When charging works and the remaining issue is an offline status, continue with the connection checks. Restore the online connection →
When the light is explained and charging works as expected, you can stop here.
The charger is active, but the settings do not explain the dark strip
Contact Technical Support →. Include whether the touch button produced a tone or a light response and what the app showed. Do not start Wi-Fi or LTE-M troubleshooting to explain the missing light.
No tone or light response, and no confirmed online connection
Check the conditions below before trying a restart or changing connection settings. No response alone does not establish the cause.
At a managed or shared site, ask the site owner or charging operator to arrange these checks. Only operate equipment you are authorised to access.
A circuit breaker or another protective device has tripped
Leave it switched off. Do not repeatedly reset it or bypass it. Contact your installer, or ask the site owner or operator to arrange an inspection. Do not continue with connection checks.
No protective device has tripped
The next step depends on what happened before the light went out.
The light went out during charging or while the charger was idle
Before trying to restore power, follow the power-loss guide. It has different safety instructions depending on whether charging was in progress. Tell the site owner or operator what happened if they are arranging the checks.
Follow the power-loss checks →
Complete that guidance first. Only continue to connection checks once the charger is working again and the remaining problem is an offline status.
A locked cable must not be forced. Follow the stop instructions in the power-loss guide before restoring power.
You are unsure what happened or cannot check the installation
Contact Technical Support →, or ask the site owner or operator to arrange help, before trying a restart. Include when you last saw the charger working and whether charging was in progress. Do not continue with Wi-Fi or LTE-M troubleshooting while the charger remains dark and unresponsive.
Multicoloured or unlisted pattern
For a multicoloured “disco light” pattern, use the display check below. For another pattern that does not match the examples, the app warning and charging behaviour help you find the next step.
The strip shows a multicoloured “disco light” pattern
This light pattern does not affect the charger’s functionality. To try to clear the display, switch off the charger’s power for 1–2 hours.
Only use the charger’s circuit breaker if you can identify it safely and are authorised to operate it. At a managed or shared site, ask the site owner or charging operator to arrange this.
If a protective device has tripped, leave it off and contact your installer or site operator.
- Stop charging, then switch off the charger’s circuit breaker.
- Leave the power off for 1–2 hours.
- Switch the power back on and check the light strip.
If a protective device trips when power is restored, leave it off and contact your installer or site operator.
The multicoloured pattern has cleared
No further checks are needed for this light pattern.
The multicoloured pattern remains
Send Technical Support a short video of the whole light strip and the charger serial number. Include that you left the power off for 1–2 hours and what happened after switching it back on. Do not repeat the restart.
Another pattern does not match the examples
Check the Easee App for a warning or temporary status and follow any specific instruction it shows.
There is no app warning, and charging works normally
You can stop troubleshooting this unlisted pattern. No restart is needed. To address the multicoloured “disco light” display, use its check above.
Charging does not start or stops unexpectedly
The current charging status can help explain what is preventing charging. Check the charging status →
If the problem or a specific error remains after that guidance, Contact Technical Support →. Include what happened just before the pattern appeared.
You cannot check the app
At a managed or shared site, ask the site owner or charging operator to check the warning and charging status. If charging also fails and you cannot get that information, Contact Technical Support →. Include the light pattern and what happened before charging failed.
A specific warning remains after following its instructions
Contact Technical Support →. Include the warning and the checks you completed.
Contact Technical Support
Include the charger serial number and any app warning. For a moving or unclear pattern, include a short video of the whole strip.
