Add an imported or local key over Bluetooth

Before you start

Imported and local keys are stored on a charger. You can add or manage them in the Easee App only while your phone is connected directly to that charger over Bluetooth. Enable Bluetooth and stay close to the charger.

Imported account key

Offline with an account link

Import an existing account key to the charger. The key stays linked to the account, works offline, and continues to appear in reports filtered by key. You can manage it individually.

Local key

Offline without an account link

Create a key that is stored only on this charger. The key works offline. Its charging sessions do not appear in reports filtered by key, and the key cannot be removed individually.

  1. 01Open the Easee App, then select Keys from the app menu.
  2. 02Select Local then select the charger where the key should work.
  3. 03Allow the app to connect to the charger over Bluetooth. Keep your phone close until the connection is established.
  4. 04Select Import account keysto keep the key linked to the account. To create a local key, scan a tag or enter its key number.

Enter the key number manually

Enter the identifier printed on the key. Enter a name, then select Add.

Bluetooth not connecting?

Enable Bluetooth, allow the Easee App to access Bluetooth, and stay close to the charger while connecting. Then open the complete Bluetooth guide.

Local operation only

If the charger should authorize access locally only, unlink it from the site in Easee Control. Do this only for an installation that is intentionally operated without cloud authorization.

View and export consumption

You can find personal charging sessions in the Easee App and site reports in Easee Control.

Where to find consumption data

Users can view their own assigned charging sessions in the Easee App. Site owners and site administrators can view and export site reports in Easee Control.

Your consumption: Easee App

If your Easee Key is linked to your Easee account, you can view and export the charging sessions assigned to that key in the Easee App.

Site reports: Easee Control

Site roles with the required permissions can view and export consumption data in Easee Control. The available filters depend on the selected report.

04

Remove an Easee Key

Export any consumption data you need before deleting a key or removing it from a charger.

  • Before deleting a key

Export any consumption data you need as a CSV or PDF first. Deletion is permanent and may remove the link between the key and a user in reports.

  • Account, site, and imported keys

Delete account and site keys in the Easee App or Easee Control. You can remove an imported key individually in the Easee App while connected to the charger over Bluetooth.

  • Local keys

Connect to the charger over Bluetooth in the Easee App. Local keys cannot be removed individually. Remove all local keys from the charger, then add back only the keys that should continue to have access.

05

Supported cards and tags

The key must transmit the same identifier each time it is used at the charger.

RFID and NFC tags

Recommended

Use an Easee Key or another RFID or NFC tag with a fixed identifier. These options are the most reliable.

Bank cards

Usually not suitable

Contactless bank cards normally use changing dynamic tokens. A bank card works only if it transmits the same persistent identifier each time. It is used for identification only and never as a payment method.

Smartphones

Usually not suitable

Apple and Android phones normally use changing dynamic tokens. A phone works only if it transmits the same persistent identifier each time.

Supported technologiesNFC / ISO 14443 · MIFARE Classic · 13.56 MHz

Troubleshoot Easee Keys

Select the issue you are experiencing.

My key or tag is not recognized
  1. Check whether the card or tag uses a fixed identifier. Bank cards and smartphones are generally not suitable.
  2. Under Keys, check that the key was added to the correct account, site, or charger.
  3. Check the site's access setting. For private access, the account being used must be approved for the site or charger.
  4. Hold the key steadily against the charger's RFID area again.

If another known working Easee Key is also not recognized, check Access control.

“Key already assigned” is displayed

An account key can be linked to one user account only. First check whether it is already saved under Keys in another Easee account. Remove the existing link there before adding the key to the required account.

If you do not know which account the key is linked to, contact Easee Support. Include a photo of the key and the key ID.

The maximum number of keys has been reached

This limit applies to local keys only. A maximum of 10 local keys can be stored on one charger.

Local keys cannot be removed individually. Remove all local keys from the charger, then add back only the keys that are still required.

Bluetooth connection fails

Enable Bluetooth, allow the Easee App to access Bluetooth, and stay close to the charger. Fully close and reopen the app if the connection attempt does not start.

Then follow the complete guide to connecting over Bluetooth.

I cannot add or manage keys at the site

Your role determines which site functions you can manage. Site owners and site administrators can manage the site. Users can use their personal account keys and access their own consumption data, but cannot manage site roles or access settings.

Review the roles and access settings in Access control.
