Charging access and user roles
Understand access settings, user roles and how site and charger access work together.
Access to charging depends on the charger’s access setting, how it relates to its site, and the permissions assigned to users and Easee Keys. A charger can follow its site’s access setting or use its own.
Your user role determines which settings you can view or manage. This applies whether you charge at home or manage chargers for others.
01Charging access settings
The three settings are Open, Public and Private. Here is how they differ:
Open
Anyone can charge.
No authorisation needed.
Public
Anyone with an Easee account can charge.
Authorise the session. You do not need site access.
Private
Only users or Easee Keys with the required access can charge.
Authorisation required.
02User roles
The Site Owner and Administrators manage charging access. Users charge with the access provided.
Site Owner and Administrators
- Decide who can charge and how charging is authorised.
- Manage site and charger settings.
- Add users and arrange access using Easee Keys.
Each site has one Site Owner and can have several Administrators.
Users
Charge at the chargers they have access to, using the method set up for them.
If you have received an invitation, accept it and find your charger in the App.
03How site and charger access work together
Access settings can apply to a whole site or to one charger. Linked and Unlinked show whether a charger follows the site’s setting or is managed separately.
Follows the site’s access setting. Changes to the site setting also apply to this charger.
Uses its own access setting. Changes to the site’s access setting do not affect this charger.
Inviting users to an Unlinked charger
- MDU sites: Users can be invited directly to the charger without receiving site access.
- SDU sites: The invitation also grants site access.
MDU and SDU refer to multi-dwelling and single-dwelling site types.
04Change access settings
- Who: Site Owner or Administrators at Easee-operated sites. Other operators use their own access controls.
- Before you start: At shared sites, check Linked or Unlinked in Easee Control to identify which setting applies.
Easee AppChoose Open, Public or Private
- Open the charger in the Easee App and select Access.
- Choose Open, Public or Private.
- Look for the confirmation at the bottom of the screen.
The selected access setting is now active.
Easee ControlManage charger settings and users
- Sign in to Easee Control, select Easee View and open the site.
- Open the charger and select Access using the lock icon.
- Choose Linked to use the site’s access setting, or select Open, Public or Private to configure access for this charger.
- For Private access, manage approved users under Access list.
Inviting someone to an Unlinked charger: at MDU sites, access can be limited to that charger; at SDU sites, the invitation also grants site access.
- Select Save.
The charger now uses the saved access setting.
If the access setting cannot be changed or does not work as expected, contact Easee Technical Support.
