Charging access and user roles
Understand who can charge and change access in the Easee App or Easee Control.
Charging access works in three layers: the access level decides who may charge, the user role decides who may change that setting, and the linked status decides whether the charger follows the site or uses its own access level. Check them in this order.
01Who can charge?
The access level gives the first answer. It determines who may start a charging session and whether identification is required.
| Access level | Who can charge? | How charging is authorised |
|---|---|---|
| OpenOpen for everyone | Anyone with physical access to the charger. | No authentication is required. |
| PublicOpen for Easee accounts | Anyone with an Easee account. A site invitation is not required. | Easee App, an account-linked Easee Key or a compatible RFID tag. |
| PrivateApproved users only | Only people approved for the site or the individual charger. | Easee App or a key or tag assigned to an approved account. |
Charging permission is not the same as App access
If the charger is missing from the Easee App, use the access guide for installation invitations, ownership transfers and shared sites.
Find the correct access path02Who can change access?
The user role controls management rights. It does not by itself give someone permission to charge.
| Role | Can manage | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Site Owner | Site and charger access, Administrators, users and ownership. | Only one Site Owner per site. Only this role can transfer ownership. |
| Administrator | Site and charger access, user invitations and approved-user lists. | Cannot transfer ownership. |
| User | Can use chargers where the account is permitted. | Cannot change access levels or manage other users. |
03Which access setting does the charger use?
After checking the access level and role, check whether the charger is linked to the site access setting or managed separately.
| Status | Access setting | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| Linked | Follows the site access level. | Changing the site setting changes access for every linked charger. |
| Unlinked | Uses its own access level and approved-user list. | The charger remains part of the site. Site Owner and Administrator permissions stay the same. |
What changes between SDU and MDU sites?
SDU and MDU here refer to the site type, not the charger product group.
| Site type | When a user is added to an unlinked charger |
|---|---|
| MDU site | The user can be added to that charger without receiving additional permission for the site. |
| SDU site | The user also receives access to the site. |
To find the site type in the Easee App, open the site overview, select settings and open About. If this information is unavailable, ask the Site Owner or Administrator.
04Change access in the Easee App or Easee Control
Use the Easee App to change the access level for the charger you are viewing. Use Easee Control when you need to manage the site setting, Linked status, approved users or several chargers.
Change access in the Easee App
Use this route to change the access level directly from the charger card.
Open the charger
Open the required charger in the Easee App.
Open Access
Select Access on the charger card.
Choose the access level
Select Open, Public or Private. A confirmation appears when the new access level is active.
Change access in Easee Control
Use this route for site administration, Linked or unlinked chargers and approved-user lists.
Open the site
Sign in to Easee Control, select Easee View and open the required site.
Select the charger
Open the charger whose access setting you want to change.
Open Access
Select Access using the lock icon.
Choose where access comes from
Select Linked to follow the site setting. Select Open, Public or Private to give the charger its own access level.
Review approved users and save
For Private access, open Access list to review or manage approved users. Select Save when you are finished.
Check the result
A linked charger now follows the site access level. An unlinked charger uses the access level and approved-user list selected for that charger.
Open Easee ControlIf another operator manages the site
Change access in the operator’s app or contact the site operator. Easee Control cannot override access managed by another operator.
If older instructions refer to Tools → Access Control, they describe the previous Easee Control view.
Need help?
If access still does not work after the Site Owner or Administrator has checked the settings, contact Easee Support.
