Easee charger light patterns

Find the light you see, what it means and what to do next.

Owner: Easee · Editorial review: 30 September 2026

Applies to: Easee chargers with a vertical light strip · For: Charger users

Match the colour and movement on your charger. Check whether the whole strip lights up or only the light at the bottom.

Steady: stays on. Pulsing: gradually brightens and dims. Flashing: blinks on and off.

The examples are vertical, like the strip on your charger. The animations illustrate movement, not exact timing.

White or blue light

Did the colour change after you held the touch button? Follow the Bluetooth connection guide.

What you see What it means What to do
One or two steady white lights at the bottom
Standby. The charger is ready. No action needed. If a vehicle is connected and you expected charging to start, Check the charging status.
Steady white or blue light across the strip
Vehicle connected. Charging is not in progress. No action needed if you are not expecting charging yet. Otherwise, Check the charging status.
White or blue light gradually brightens and dims
Charging in progress. No action needed if charging is working as expected. If it is slower than expected, Check the charging limit.
White light blinks on and off across the strip
Approval needed. The charger is waiting for permission to charge. Use an approved Easee Key, RFID tag or the charging method provided for this site. If you do not know which method to use, ask the person or operator responsible for the charger. If it turns red, use the access check below.
White light blinks rapidly across the strip after using a key or tag
Key check in progress. The charger is checking your key or tag. Wait for the light to change. If it turns red, use the access check below. If it keeps blinking, follow the key troubleshooting guide.
Only the bottom light blinks white
Connection between chargers unavailable. The charger is searching for the primary charger (Master) on the same circuit. Ask the person managing the site to check the primary charger. If you manage the site, Check charger communication.

Red light

Check whether the light stays on, blinks or gradually brightens and dims. Note whether it appeared after an approval attempt and whether you hear warning sounds.

What you see What it means What to do
Red blinking immediately after a key, tag or app approval attempt, without warning sounds
Charging approval may have been rejected. After a key or tag: Check your key or tag. After an app approval attempt: Check your charging access. For operator-managed access, contact the operator. If red blinking continues, use the next row.
Red blinking that continues, starts without an approval attempt, or comes with warning sounds
Charger fault. With warning or alarm sounds, the charger cannot be used. The light alone does not identify the cause. Stop trying to use the charger. Check the Easee App for an error or warning. If it reports high temperature, follow the temperature guidance. If the fault remains or you cannot check the app, contact Technical Support.
Red light gradually brightens and dims
A fault needs attention. Check the app warning to identify the cause. If the app reports high temperature, follow the temperature guidance. For another warning, follow the matching error guidance. If there is no warning or you cannot check the app, contact Technical Support.
Steady red light across the strip
Charger error. The light alone does not identify the cause. If you hear warning sounds, stop using the charger. Check the app warning and follow the matching error guidance. If the fault remains, there is no warning, or you cannot check the app, contact Technical Support.

Do not try to clear a red fault with repeated restarts or force a locked cable.

Yellow light

What you see What it means What to do
Only the bottom light blinks yellow
Waiting for configuration. Installation setup needs to be completed. Contact the installer or the company responsible for the installation. Adding the charger to the Easee App does not complete installation setup.

Green light

What you see What it means What to do
Green light starts at the bottom and fills the strip upwards
Software update in progress. The fuller the green strip, the further the update has progressed. Wait for the update to finish. Once it is complete, the strip is no longer green.

Very old chargers without Bluetooth: with firmware older than version 318, green can also indicate the local interface. See the Bluetooth connection guide for firmware requirements.

No light

A dark strip does not by itself prove that the charger has lost power. If you can, check its status in the Easee App.

The charger is online

Check activation and LED brightness in Charger settings. If these explain the dark strip, no fault troubleshooting is needed. To change them, follow that guide or ask the person managing the charger.

If the charger is active and its settings do not explain the missing light, contact Technical Support.

The charger is offline, or you cannot check its status

Before restoring power, follow the power-loss checks. Choose the path for whether charging was in progress when the light went out.

At a shared site, ask the site owner or charging operator to check the charger.

Pattern not listed?

If the colour, movement or lit part of the strip does not match a row, check for a warning or temporary status in the Easee App.

Follow any instructions shown. If a temporary status clears and charging works as expected, no further action is needed.

If the pattern remains unexplained, contact Technical Support. Note what happened just before it appeared.

Contact Technical Support

Include the charger serial number and any app warning. For a moving or unclear pattern, include a short video of the whole strip.
