Easee Keys – Understanding access control

Who is allowed to charge? How is it tracked? Everything about account keys, Site Keys, local keys, and when each type makes sense.

New feature

Site Keys are now available

Site Keys are assigned directly to the site – no user account required. Ideal for apartment buildings: residents get charging access without their own Easee account. Available in the Installer app, the customer app, and Easee Control.

¹ The energy overview records the charger’s total consumption hourly – regardless of which key was used. Assignment by key or person is not possible here.
Local key linked to an accountUsing “Import account key”, an account key is converted into a local key – it remains linked to the account, and person-specific reporting is still possible.

When does each type make sense?

Account key – private home use

Consumption can be documented for employer reimbursement or tax purposes.

Account key – multiple sites

One key works at home, at work, and at the gym.

Site Key – apartment building / rental

Residents get charging access without their own Easee account.

Local key – offline operation

Works without a cloud connection – authentication directly on the device.

Practical example: housing association with 8 chargers

Compatible cards & tags

Besides the Easee tag, most RFID/NFC tags work

EC & debit cards

Cards with NFC support can be used as an Easee Key – not as a payment method, only as an identifier.

Apple devices

Apple products regularly change their NFC ID. Stable key storage is therefore not possible.

Android smartphones
