Manage Easee Keys
Choose the right key, add it, and understand how access and consumption are assigned.
What do you want to do?
Choose the right key
The key type determines where it works and whether charging can be assigned to a user.
For most personal use, choose an account key. Use an offline option only when the key must be stored directly on a charger.
| Key type | Best for | Offline | Consumption data |
|---|---|---|---|
| Account key | Personal access through an Easee account. | No | Assigned to the account and visible as the user’s own consumption. |
| Site key | Shared access managed for one charging site. | No | Associated with the site, not an individual account. |
| Imported account key | Personal account reporting when the key must also work offline at a specific charger. | Yes | Remains linked to the account and can be assigned to that user. |
| Local key | Offline access at one charger without identifying an individual user, for example a key issued for a parking space. | Yes | Included in the charger’s total consumption, but not assigned to a user. |
Local storage limit: A charger can store up to 10 keys locally. This total includes imported account keys and local keys because both are mirrored to the charger.
Add an Easee Key
Select the method that matches the key type and where it needs to work.
Add an account key in the Easee App
From the app overview, select Keys in the bottom navigation.
Select Account, then select Add account key.
Scan the key with your phone or at the charger. You can also enter the key number manually.
Expected result: The key appears under Account and charging sessions authorized with it can be assigned to your account.
Add a site key in the Easee App
You need a site role that allows you to manage keys at the site.
Open the site, select Keys, then select +.
Scan the site key with your phone or enter the key number manually.
Expected result: The key is available for access at the selected site.
Can’t see the option? Your role may not allow site management. Check access and user roles.
Make an account key or local key work offline
Imported account keys and local keys are mirrored to the charger. Connect your phone directly to that charger over Bluetooth and remain close to it until the key is saved.
- 01Open the Easee App and select Keys.
- 02Select Local, then select the charger where the key should work.
- 03Allow the app to connect to the charger over Bluetooth.
- 04Choose Import account keys to mirror an existing account key while keeping its account connection. To create a key without an account connection, scan a tag or enter its key number.
Expected result: The key is stored on the selected charger and can authorize charging when the charger is offline. An imported account key remains connected to its account; a local key does not identify an individual user.
Bluetooth not connecting? Enable Bluetooth, allow the Easee App to use it and stay close to the charger. If the connection still fails, follow the Bluetooth connection guide.
Add an account key in Easee Control
This is an alternative way to add an account key. It does not add site keys or keys stored locally on a charger.
Open Easee View
Sign in to control.easee.com. Select the Easee icon, then select Easee View.
Open your profile
Select your profile in the top-right corner, then select View profile.
Select Keys
Select Keys. Under Account keys, select Add.
Add the key
Enter the key ID under Key number, add a short name, then select Add.
Expected result: The key appears under Account keys in your profile.
View or export consumption
Use the Easee App for your own consumption and Easee Control for administrative site reporting.
Your consumption: Easee App
Charging authorized with an account key or imported account key can be assigned to the connected account. The user can view their own consumption in the Easee App.
Site reporting: Easee Control
Site roles with the required permissions can evaluate consumption across users and chargers at a site and export the required report.
Local keys: Because a local key has no account connection, its charging cannot be assigned to an individual user. It remains part of the charger’s total consumption.
Remove or replace an Easee Key
The removal method depends on whether the key is connected to an account, a site or only a charger.
Account keyRemove the key from your account in the Easee App or from your personal profile in Easee Control.
Site keyRemove the key from the relevant site. You need a role that allows you to manage site keys.
Imported account keyConnect to the charger over Bluetooth and remove the imported key from that charger. The original account connection remains until the account key itself is deleted.
Local keyLocal keys cannot be removed individually. Remove all local keys from the charger, then add back only the keys that should continue to work there.
Before removing a reporting key: If an administrative record is required, create or export the relevant site report in Easee Control first.
Supported cards and tags
The key must transmit the same identifier each time it is presented to the charger.
RFID and NFC tags
Recommended
Use an Easee Key or another RFID or NFC tag with a fixed identifier.
Bank cards
Usually not suitable
Contactless bank cards normally use changing identifiers. A compatible card is used only for identification, never for payment.
Smartphones
Usually not suitable
Apple and Android phones normally use changing identifiers and therefore cannot usually be used as a fixed key.
Supported technologiesNFC / ISO 14443 · MIFARE Classic · 13.56 MHz
Troubleshoot an Easee Key
Select the issue that matches what you can see.
The key or tag is not recognized
What to check
- Confirm that the card or tag uses a fixed identifier. Bank cards and smartphones are generally not suitable.
- Under Keys, confirm that it was added to the correct account, site or charger.
- Confirm that the site’s access setting allows this key or account to charge.
- Hold the key steadily against the RFID area again.
Expected result
The charger recognizes the key and authorizes the session.
If it still fails: Try a known working Easee Key. If that key also fails, contact Easee Support with the charger serial number, key ID and exact time of the attempt.
“Key already assigned” is displayed
An account key can be connected to one Easee account. Check whether it is already saved under Keys in another account and remove that connection before adding it again.
If you do not know the account: Contact Easee Support and include a clear photo of the key and its key ID.
The local storage limit has been reached
A charger can store up to 10 keys locally, including imported account keys and keys without an account connection.
Remove imported account keys that are no longer required. Because local keys cannot be removed individually, remove all local keys and then add back only those that should continue to work.
The Bluetooth connection fails
- Enable Bluetooth and allow the Easee App to use it.
- Stay close to the charger.
- Fully close and reopen the Easee App, then try again.
If the connection still fails, follow the Bluetooth connection guide.
If Support is required: Include the charger serial number, phone model, operating-system version and the point where the connection stops.
I cannot add or manage site keys
Your role determines whether you can manage keys at a site. A normal site user can use their personal account key and view their own assigned consumption, but cannot manage site access.
Ask the site owner or administrator to add the site key or adjust your role. You can compare the permissions in Access, user roles and charging permissions.
