Connect your Easee charger to WiFi
Add WiFi, change the saved network or reconnect a charger that is shown as offline.
The fastest way to change WiFi depends on whether Easee Cloud can currently reach the charger. Check how the charger appears in the Easee App, then open only the route that matches what you see.
01Start with the charger status
Before you start
Have the WiFi network name and password ready. The network must use 2.4 GHz and DHCP. To use the Easee App or Easee Control, your account must have access to the charger.
If the charger is online, use the App or Easee Control route. If it is shown as offline, use Bluetooth to connect locally.
Online in the Easee AppFor site owners who want to add or change the saved WiFi network in the app.
Open the charger settings
In the Easee App, select the charger and tap the settings icon in the top-right corner.
Open WiFi
Under General, tap WiFi.
Find the network
Tap Search, then select the required 2.4 GHz WiFi network.
Save the credentials
Enter the WiFi password and tap Confirm.
Connection confirmed
The selected network name appears under WiFi. The charger can now use this network for its cloud connection.
Easee App screens
Managed in Easee ControlFor site owners or site administrators already working in the browser.
Open the charger
Sign in to Easee Control. Open Easee View, select the relevant site and open the charger.
Open Easee ControlOpen WiFi settings
Select Charger settings. Under General, select WiFi.
Add or change the network
Select the connected network to change it. If the charger is online through LTE-M, select Search and add the required 2.4 GHz WiFi network.
Connection confirmed
The selected network is shown on the WiFi page in Easee Control.
Easee Control screens
Shown as offline in the Easee AppUse Bluetooth because cloud commands cannot currently reach the charger.
Cloud commands cannot reach an offline charger. Bluetooth gives the Easee App a local connection so you can update the WiFi credentials.
Bluetooth access
Enable Bluetooth on your smartphone, allow Bluetooth access for the Easee App and stay within 10 metres of the charger.
Enable Bluetooth on the charger
Press and hold the touch button above the light strip for at least five seconds. The light strip turns blue and the charger emits a confirmation tone. If you hear the tone without a colour change, Bluetooth is already enabled.
Connect locally
In the Easee App, select the offline charger, tap Connect via Bluetooth and confirm the pairing request.
Open the WiFi settings
When Bluetooth appears at the top of the charger screen, open settings. Under General, tap WiFi, then Search.
Add and save the network
Select the network from the list. If it is not shown, tap Add manually. Enter the full network name and password, then tap Confirm.
What happens next
The charger saves the credentials and attempts to reconnect. When it is online again, the Easee App can send commands through Easee Cloud.
Connect to the charger over Bluetooth
If the app asks about automatic connectionThis normally appears only the first time this smartphone connects.
Choose whether this smartphone should connect automatically in future. Keep Always auto-connect selected if required, then tap Done.
Open WiFi and save the network
Did the charger connect?
If the selected network is shown and the charger is online, you are done. If the network is missing or the connection fails, continue with Section 2.
02Check that the WiFi network is compatible
Use these requirements if the network does not appear or the connection fails.
| Frequency | 2.4 GHz |
|---|---|
| WiFi standard | IEEE 802.11 b/g/n |
| Signal strength | −75 dBm or stronger at the charger |
| IP address | DHCP required; static IP addresses are not supported |
| Network security | Password-protected network |
| Password | Maximum 31 characters. Do not use period (.), slash (/), backslash (\) or hyphen (-). |
| Not supported | 5 GHz and WiFi 6 / IEEE 802.11ax |
Using a mesh network?
If the network is not shown or the connection fails, temporarily switch off additional mesh points and connect the charger directly to the router. Switch the additional points back on afterwards.
Advanced network and firewall requirementsOnly relevant for managed or corporate networks.
Home networks normally require no changes. On a managed or corporate network, the following outbound traffic and associated sessions must be allowed.
| Port | Protocol | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| 80 | TCP · HTTP | Web communication |
| 443 | TCP · HTTPS | Secure web communication |
| 1883 | TCP · MQTT | Device communication |
| 8883 | TCP · MQTT | Encrypted device communication |
| 53 | UDP · DNS | Name resolution |
| 56906 | UDP | Local client-to-client communication |
| 123 | TCP and UDP · NTP | Time synchronisation |
The firewall must not block api.easee.com, amazonaws.com or google.com.
03If the charger does not connect
Choose the one result that matches what happens after you try the relevant connection path.
The WiFi network is not shownCheck the frequency, signal and network name.
- Confirm that the network is broadcasting on 2.4 GHz.
- Check the signal strength at the charger.
- Search again, then use Add manually if required.
- Enter the complete network name exactly as configured on the router.
The password is accepted but the connection failsSeparate a credential problem from a local-network problem.
- Check the password length and unsupported characters in Section 2.
- Test the same network name and password on another device.
- Restart the router according to the router manufacturer's instructions.
- Temporarily test the charger with a 2.4 GHz smartphone hotspot. If the hotspot works, contact the network administrator or internet provider.
The charger remains offlineCharging may still work even when the app cannot reach the charger through Easee Cloud.
Use the offline guide next. It checks whether charging still works and what the light strip shows before giving the correct recovery step.
