When authentication is required, an Easee Key lets you start charging by holding an RFID key or compatible tag against the charger. You can connect a key to your account, make it available across a site or store it directly on a charger for offline use. Choose below what you want to do.

01What do you want to do?

Start with the task you need. You can return here without going through the setup path again.

02Choose how the key should work

Choose the situation that matches how the key will be used. The key type is the result of that choice, not something you need to know beforehand.

I want… Key type Offline Charging is recorded for
One personal key for chargers I can access, for example at home, work or the gym. Account key
Recommended for most users
No The linked Easee account.
A key that authorises charging at every charger at one site without identifying an individual account. Site key No The charger. In an export by key, the Key ID is shown as the name.
My personal account key to work at one specific charger while that charger is offline. Imported account key Yes The linked Easee account.
A key that works only at one charger without identifying a user, for example for one parking space. Local key Yes The charger total, not an individual user.

03Add your key

Open the route for the key type you selected. Each route ends with the result you should see.

Add an account key in the Easee AppFor personal access and consumption assigned to your Easee account.
01

Open Keys

From the app overview, select Keys in the bottom navigation.

Account tab in the Easee App with Add account key
02Select AccountSelect Account, then Add account key.
Options for scanning or entering an account key
03Add the keyScan it with your phone or at the charger, or enter the key number manually.

Expected result: The key appears under Account. Charging sessions authorised with it can be assigned to your account.

Add a site key in the Easee AppFor a key that should work at every charger at one site.

Before you start: You need a site role that allows you to manage keys.

Site key view in the Easee App with the add button
01Open the site keysOpen the site, select Keys, then select +.
Options for scanning or entering a site key
02Add the keyScan the site key with your phone or enter the key number manually.

Expected result: The key can authorise charging at every charger at the selected site. It is not linked to an individual Easee account. In an export by key, the Key ID is shown as the name.

If the option is missing

Your role may not allow site management. Check the permissions before trying again.

Make an account key or local key work offlineStore the key directly on one charger over Bluetooth.

Imported account keys and local keys are stored on the charger. Stay close to that charger until the key has been saved.

Local storage limit

One charger can store up to 10 keys locally. Imported account keys and local keys both count towards this total.

01

Open Keys

Open the Easee App and select Keys.

02

Select the charger

Select Local, then choose the charger where the key should work.

03

Connect over Bluetooth

Allow the app to connect directly to the charger.

04

Choose how the key is stored

Select Import account keys to keep an existing account connection. To create a local key without an account connection, scan a tag or enter its key number.

Expected result: The key can authorise charging while the charger is offline. An imported account key remains linked to its account; a local key does not identify an individual user.

If Bluetooth does not connect

Enable Bluetooth, allow the Easee App to use it and stay close to the charger. If it still fails, follow the connection guide.

Open the Bluetooth guide
Add an account key in Easee ControlAn alternative route for account keys only.

This route does not add site keys or keys stored locally on a charger.

01

Open Easee View

Sign in to control.easee.com. Select the Easee icon, then select Easee View.

02

Open your profile

Select your profile in the top-right corner, then select View profile.

03

Select Keys

Select Keys. Under Account keys, select Add.

04

Add the key

Enter the key ID under Key number, add a short name, then select Add.

Expected result: The key appears under Account keys in your profile.

What can I use as an Easee Key?The identifier must remain the same each time it is presented to the charger.
Cards and devices used as an Easee Key
Type Suitability Why
RFID or NFC tag Recommended Use an Easee Key or another tag with a fixed identifier.
Bank card Usually not suitable Contactless bank cards normally use changing identifiers. A compatible card is used only for identification, never for payment.
Smartphone Usually not suitable Apple and Android phones normally use changing identifiers and therefore cannot usually act as a fixed key.

Supported technologies: NFC / ISO 14443 · MIFARE Classic · 13.56 MHz

04Check where charging is recorded

The key’s connection determines where an authorised charging session appears.

Key type Charging is assigned to
Account key The linked Easee account.
Imported account key The linked Easee account.
Site key The charger. In an export by key, the Key ID is shown as the name.
Local key The charger total. It cannot be assigned to an individual user.

Your consumption: Easee App

Use the App to view charging assigned to your account, including sessions authorised with an account key or imported account key.

Site reports: Easee Control

Site Owners and Administrators can export charging data by charger, key, user or energy.

Open site consumption reports

05Remove or replace a key

Remove a key from the same place where it was added. Add its replacement through the matching route in chapter 03.

Export required records first

If an administrative record is needed, create or export the relevant site report in Easee Control before removing the reporting key.

Key type Remove it from What happens
Account key Your account in the Easee App or your personal profile in Easee Control. The key is no longer linked to that Easee account.
Site key The relevant site. You need a role that allows you to manage site keys. The key can no longer authorise charging at any charger at that site.
Imported account key The charger. The imported copy is removed from that charger. The original account connection remains until the account key itself is deleted.
Local key The charger. Local keys cannot be removed individually. Remove all local keys, then add back only those that should continue to work.

06What happens when you use the key?

Open the symptom you can see. Each route ends with the next check or the information Easee Support needs.

The key or tag is not recognisedCheck the identifier, where the key was added and the site access setting.
  1. Confirm that the card or tag uses a fixed identifier. Bank cards and smartphones are generally not suitable.
  2. Under Keys, confirm that it was added to the correct account, site or charger.
  3. Confirm that the site access setting allows this key or account to charge.
  4. Hold the key steadily against the RFID area again.

Expected result: The charger recognises the key and authorises the session.

If it still fails

Try a known working Easee Key. If that key also fails, contact Easee Support with the charger serial number, key ID and exact time of the attempt.

Contact Easee Support
“Key already assigned” is displayedThe account key is already linked to another Easee account.

Check whether the key is already saved under Keys in another account. Remove that connection before adding it again.

If you do not know the account

Contact Easee Support and include a clear photo of the key and its key ID.

I can’t add another local keyThe charger’s local storage limit may have been reached.

A charger can store up to 10 keys locally, including imported account keys and keys without an account connection.

Remove imported account keys that are no longer needed. Because local keys cannot be removed individually, remove all local keys and then add back only those that should continue to work.

The Bluetooth connection failsCheck phone permissions and distance before following the Bluetooth guide.
  1. Enable Bluetooth and allow the Easee App to use it.
  2. Stay close to the charger.
  3. Fully close and reopen the Easee App, then try again.
Open the Bluetooth guide

If Support is required

Include the charger serial number, phone model, operating-system version and the point where the connection stops.

Contact Easee Support
I can’t add or manage site keysYour site role may not include key-management permissions.

A standard site user can use a personal account key and view their own assigned consumption but cannot manage site access.

Ask the Site Owner or Administrator to add the site key or adjust your role.

Check access and user roles

Your Easee Key is ready

Once the key has been added successfully, hold it against the charger when authentication is required. Charging authorised with an account key can be assigned to the connected Easee account.
