Easee Keys (RFID) – choose, add and manage a key

Use and manage Easee Keys

Use an RFID key to authorise charging, choose how it should work and manage it later.

Applies to:Easee App · Easee Control
For:Users · Site Owners · Site Administrators

An Easee Key is an RFID key or compatible tag you hold against a charger to authorise charging when access is restricted. Choose where it should work, then follow the matching setup instructions.

01Choose the right key setup

02Add your Easee Key

The Easee App guide covers Account Keys, keys stored on a charger and importing an Account Key for offline use. Easee Control can add an Account Key when you have its key number.

Register a Site Key

A Site Owner or Site Administrator opens the site in the Easee App, selects Keys, then +. Scan the key or enter its number. The key can then work at chargers on that site when access settings permit it.

To link charging to a person, that user also adds the same key to their account and needs charging access at the site. If you cannot see the Site Keys option, ask the Site Owner or Site Administrator to check your permissions.

Import an Account Key for offline use

Add the key to your account first. In the Easee App, open Keys, select Local and the charger, connect over Bluetooth, then select Import account keys. The local copy works offline only on that charger. The account association is retained for supported reports after the charging data syncs.

Follow the Easee App instructions

03Manage or remove a key

A key can be registered in more than one place. Check Keys in the Easee App before removing it so you know which relationship will end.

Where to remove an Easee Key and what happens to its charging records
Key relationship Remove it from What happens
Account Key Your account in the Easee App or your profile in Easee Control. The account association ends. If the key remains registered at a site, that site's consumption stays but is identified only by key ID. If the key is removed completely, its consumption history is deleted.
Site Key · remove account association The user's account. The Site Key remains available at the site. Its consumption remains, but reports show the key ID instead of the user's name.
Site Key · remove completely The site, with a role that can manage Site Keys. The key stops working at that site. Consumption recorded for this Site Key is deleted.
Locally imported Account Key The charger. Its local copy is removed. The Account Key stays linked to the account, and its cloud report history remains, until the account relationship is removed separately.
Local-only Key The charger. Local-only keys cannot be removed individually. Removing them deletes all local-only keys and their consumption data from that charger. Export the available charging data first if you need it, then add back the keys you still use. Reports show total energy only, not a person or Key ID.

04If your key does not work

Use these checks after confirming that the intended Account, Site or Local relationship is already in place.

The key or tag is not recognisedCheck the identifier, registration and charging access.
  1. Confirm that the card or tag uses a fixed identifier. Bank cards and smartphones are generally not suitable.
  2. Under Keys, confirm that it was added to the correct account, site or charger.
  3. Confirm that the site’s access setting allows this key or account to charge.
  4. Hold the key steadily against the RFID area again.

If it still fails

Try a known working Easee Key. If that also fails, contact Easee Support with the charger serial number, key ID and exact time of the attempt.

The key is accepted, but charging does not startCheck the charging status after authorisation succeeds.

The key has authorised the session. Open the Easee App and check the charger’s status to see what is preventing or delaying charging.

Check the charging status
“Key already assigned” is displayedThe Account Key is already linked to another Easee account.

Check whether the key is already saved under Keys in another account. Remove that connection before adding it again.

If you do not know the account

Contact Easee Support and include a clear photo of the key and its key ID.

I cannot add another local keyThe charger’s local storage limit may have been reached.

A charger can store up to 10 local-only keys. Account Keys imported for offline use are managed separately and do not count towards this limit.

Local-only keys cannot be removed individually. Remove all of them, then add back only those that should continue to work.

The Bluetooth connection failsCheck phone permissions and distance.
  1. Enable Bluetooth and allow the Easee App to use it.
  2. Stay close to the charger.
  3. Fully close and reopen the Easee App, then try again.
Follow the Bluetooth connection guide
