Use and manage Easee Keys
Use an RFID key to authorise charging, choose how it should work and manage it later.
An Easee Key is an RFID key or compatible NFC tag that you hold against a charger to identify the key and, when authentication is required, authorise charging. Different registration methods are available because a key may need to follow one person’s account, work across a shared site or remain available directly on one charger. Where the key is registered determines where it can authorise charging; linking it to an account determines its account association and how supported charging sessions can be attributed.
01Understand the available key setups
Match your practical situation first. The same physical RFID key can have more than one relationship, so these configurations are not mutually exclusive.
Personal charging key Account Key
Associate the RFID key with your Easee account when it belongs to you and should work wherever that account has charging permission. Supported charging sessions can then be attributed to your user.
Shared charging site Site Key
Register the key for charging access at a site, for example in a shared residential installation. A Site Owner or Site Administrator manages it, and the same key can also be linked to a user account when charging should be attributed to that user.
Direct registration Local Key
Store the key directly on one charger when local authorisation is required, including supported offline scenarios. Import an Account Key instead of creating a local-only key when the account association and supported session attribution should remain.
Charging permission and account association are separate. Registering a key for a site or charger determines where it can authorise charging. Linking it to an account determines which account it belongs to and whether supported charging records can be assigned to that user.
An Easee Key identifies the key used; it does not automatically identify the person who charged. The applicable access settings must still allow charging.
02Add the key in the right place
Once you know the outcome you need, open the matching setup path. Adding one relationship does not automatically remove another.
Link a personal key to your accountAccount Key · follows your account access
Example: Use one personal RFID key at home, work or another charger your Easee account can access.
From the Easee App overview, select Keys in the bottom navigation. Select Account, then Add account key.
Scan it with your phone or at the charger, or enter the key number manually.
Ready: The key appears under Account. It can identify your account where that account is allowed to charge, and supported charging records can be assigned to you.
Add an Account Key in Easee Control
This is an alternative route for Account Keys. It does not add Site Keys or keys stored locally on a charger.
Sign in to control.easee.com. Select the Easee icon, then Easee View.
Select your profile in the top-right corner, then View profile.
Select Keys. Under Account keys, select Add.
Enter the key ID under Key number, add a short name, then select Add.
Register a key for one shared siteSite Key · managed at site level
Before you start, you need a site role that allows you to manage keys.
Use a shared key when charging does not need to be assigned to one person. Reports show its key ID instead of a person’s name.
The user adds the same key to their own account in the Easee App, just like an Account Key. Charging at the site can then be assigned to that user.
Open the site, select Keys, then select +.
Scan the key with your phone or enter the key number manually.
Ready: The key is registered for the selected site and can authorise charging there when the applicable access settings allow it. If the same key is also linked to an account, supported charging records can be assigned to that user; otherwise reports identify the key by its ID.
If the option is missing
Your role may not allow site management. Check your permissions or ask the Site Owner or Site Administrator to manage the key.
Check access and user rolesSave a key directly on one chargerLocal Key · available locally, including offline
Stay close to the charger while saving the key over Bluetooth. One charger can store up to 10 local-only keys, and these keys can only be removed together. This limit and removal behaviour do not apply to an Account Key imported for offline use.
Choose this when the key only needs to identify itself to one charger. Charging contributes to total energy and is not assigned to an individual user.
Choose this when an Account Key must work locally and offline. The account association is retained, so charging can still be linked to the user.
Open the Easee App and select Keys.
Select Local, then choose the charger where the key should work.
Allow the app to connect directly to the charger.
Select Import account keys to keep an existing account connection. To create a local-only key, scan a tag or enter its key number.
Ready: The key is saved on the selected charger and can authorise charging locally while that charger is offline. A local-only key does not identify a user, so its consumption is included only in the Energy Summary report. An imported Account Key remains linked to its account, so charging can still be reported by user and by Easee Key.
If Bluetooth does not connect
Enable Bluetooth, allow the Easee App to use it and stay close to the charger.
Follow the Bluetooth connection guide03Check or change an existing key
A key can be connected in more than one place. Check its current relationships before you add another one or remove anything.
Check the key first: In the Easee App, look under Keys for its Account relationship, the relevant Site registration or the selected charger’s Local storage.
To add another supported relationship, keep the existing one and use the matching setup path above. To remove a relationship, use the table below so you remove it from the correct place.
Removal affects charging records differently.
The consumption history recorded for that key is deleted.
The consumption remains, but it can then be identified only by key ID.
| Where it is registered | Remove it from | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Your account in the Easee App, or your personal profile in Easee Control. | The account association is removed. If the key remains registered at a site, its consumption remains there but can only be identified by key ID. If this removes the key completely, its consumption history is deleted. |
| Site · remove account association only | The user’s account in the Easee App or Easee Control. | The key remains available at the site. Its consumption remains, but the connection to the user’s name or account is removed. Reports identify it only by key ID. |
| Site · remove key completely | The relevant site. You need a role that allows you to manage Site Keys. | The key can no longer authorise charging at that site. Consumption recorded for this Site Key is deleted. |
| Local · imported from account | The charger. | The local copy is removed from that charger. The Account Key remains connected to its account until it is deleted there. |
| Local · local only | The charger. |
Local-only keys cannot be removed individually. All
local-only keys and their consumption data are deleted
together. Add back only the keys that should continue
to work.
If you need these records, export the charging data before removing the local-only keys. View and export charging data |
04If your key does not work
Use these checks after confirming that the intended Account, Site or Local relationship is already in place.
The key or tag is not recognisedCheck the identifier, registration and charging access.
- Confirm that the card or tag uses a fixed identifier. Bank cards and smartphones are generally not suitable.
- Under Keys, confirm that it was added to the correct account, site or charger.
- Confirm that the site’s access setting allows this key or account to charge.
- Hold the key steadily against the RFID area again.
If it still fails
Try a known working Easee Key. If that also fails, contact Easee Support with the charger serial number, key ID and exact time of the attempt.

The key has authorised the session. Open the Easee App and check the charger’s status to see what is preventing or delaying charging.

Check whether the key is already saved under Keys in another account. Remove that connection before adding it again.
If you do not know the account
Contact Easee Support and include a clear photo of the key and its key ID.

A charger can store up to 10 local-only keys. Account Keys imported for offline use are managed separately and do not count towards this limit.
Local-only keys cannot be removed individually. Remove all of them, then add back only those that should continue to work.
