Car not charging or charging stops

Understand the status in the Easee App and check what happens when you charge.

When your car does not start charging, or a session stops earlier than expected, the Easee App can help you understand what is happening. It shows whether the charger is waiting, paused or finished, and gives you a starting point for a few simple checks.

This guide takes you through a charging attempt: first check the conditions for charging, then read the status and watch what happens. If the problem remains, you can share the result and its time with Technical Support.

01Check the conditions for charging

Before interpreting a status, check that the car can accept charging and that no intended schedule is holding up the start. Keep the charger open in the App while you connect the car, so you can see what changes during the attempt.

  1. Open the right charger

In the Easee App, open the site and select the affected charger. Note the status before connecting the car.

The charging status appears at the top of the charger view. This example shows “Waiting for schedule” in the older Classic view in English. Your layout and wording may differ. Keep this view open during the attempt.
  2. Check the car and cable

Make sure the battery is below the car’s selected charge limit. Check for a charging timer in the car or its app, then connect the cable fully at both ends.

  3. Check when charging is allowed

Check any schedule in the Easee App or a connected charging service. If you want to test charging now, adjust the relevant schedule only if you have permission. Authorise the session if this charger requires it, using the method provided for the site.

Plugging in and authorising are different actions

Connecting the cable does not authorise a session where authorisation is required. Some chargers start automatically; others need an Easee Key, an App action or the operator’s app. Use the method provided for this charger.

Damaged equipment or a safety warning?

Do not use a visibly damaged cable or connector. Do not force a locked plug, open the charger or change the electrical installation. For a red light or an App error, follow the matching guidance before another charging attempt.

Check the light strip or error
Cannot open the charger or see a current status?

A charger missing from the App is an access issue. Get access before using the App to observe the attempt. At a managed site, ask the site owner or operator which app and charging method to use.

Get access to the charger

An offline charger may still charge, but its cloud status may not be current. Nearby Bluetooth access may let you read the status; the offline guide explains the available connection checks.

Read the offline charger guide

If you still cannot read the status, record the message you can see and the time of the attempt. You can share these details even without a charging-status screenshot.

02Understand what the App is reporting

After connecting the cable and completing any required authorisation, read the status at the top of the charger view. The table explains what that state means and which simple check may be relevant. The status alone does not establish the technical cause.

See examples of charging statuses

These other examples show charging statuses in the older Classic view in English. Your layout or wording may differ. Match the table to the wording in your own App; the completed-session example says “Completed”.

Status shown Meaning and useful check
Waiting for authorization

The session needs authorisation. Use the method provided for this charger. If it is not accepted, ask the site owner or operator to check your charging permission. Seeing the charger in the App does not itself confirm permission to charge.

Check charging access
Waiting for schedule

Charging is waiting for a schedule or connected charging service. Check its planned start time. Waiting is expected before that time. A separate timer in the car can also delay charging.

Check schedules and charging services
Ready to charge

The charger reports that it is ready, but the car is not drawing power. Check the car’s battery level, charge limit and timer. This status alone does not tell you why charging has not started.

Waiting for the car

The charger is waiting for the car to request charging. The car’s timer or charge limit may explain the wait. It does not prove a vehicle fault.

Complete / Completed

The car is no longer requesting power for this session. Check whether it reached its charge limit. A session that ends at the intended limit is normal; an earlier stop is worth recording.

No car connected

The charger does not detect a vehicle connection. If the cable is connected and undamaged, check that both plugs are fully seated.

Paused

Charging is paused. Check any schedule or connected service you use. If the App offers a start or resume control, you can try it once. With an Equalizer, check whether it is actually limiting charging before attributing the pause to it.

Check whether the Equalizer is limiting charging

Charging is running

An active session with power or current being supplied shows that charging has started. If it continues as expected, you can stop here.

Charging that runs but is slower than expected needs a different check: look at the available current and any active limit.

Check slow charging or an active limit

03Watch whether charging starts and continues

The status gives you a snapshot. The course of the attempt shows whether charging never begins or starts and then stops. Keep the App open and note the time of any change, so the status can be matched to what happened.

Charging does not start

After the checks above, you can reconnect an undamaged cable at the car once if no schedule or charge limit explains the wait. Unlock the plug normally first. Note the local time, the status and whether anything changed. Another cable or vehicle is optional, not a requirement.

Charging starts, then stops unexpectedly

Note when charging started and when it stopped, then capture the status or error immediately after the stop. Check the battery level against the selected charge limit and whether a schedule or connected service explains the timing. You do not need to make it stop again just to collect evidence.

A reached charge limit or an intended charging schedule can explain the result. If charging still fails or stops without an explanation, use the details from this attempt when you contact Technical Support below.

04Charging still does not work? Share what happened

If the checks do not explain the failed start or early stop, share the charging attempt you just observed. Its date, local time and status help Technical Support look for the corresponding charger events and available diagnostic data.

  • The date and local time of the attempt. Give the exact time if you have it, or say it is approximate. Include the time zone if it could be unclear.
  • Whether charging never started or stopped after starting. For an interruption, include both start and stop times if known.
  • The exact App status or error, what you checked and what happened afterwards. A screenshot is useful if available.

Also include the charger serial number or another clear identification of the charger, plus your vehicle make and model if available. For an early stop, add the battery level and charge limit. Mention repeated occurrences or any cable or vehicle comparisons you have already made; you do not need to repeat tests.

Example report — illustrative only

“On 8 October at about 19:42 local time in Stavanger, I connected the car. The App showed ‘Waiting for the car’ and charging did not start. The battery was below its charge limit and no vehicle timer was active. I reconnected the cable once; the status stayed the same.”

Send the details you have. You do not need to identify the technical cause yourself.
