If charging does not start or stops sporadically, the Easee app is one of the most important tools available for troubleshooting. Typical symptoms include charging stopping shortly after it starts, stopping before the vehicle is fully charged, or not starting at all.
Before you begin
Before starting any troubleshooting, it is important to understand how the charger and the vehicle interact during a charging session. Throughout a session, the charger and vehicle move through different statuses that indicate who is in control and what is happening.
When everything is functioning normally, the process should follow this sequence:
- No car connected (before connecting the vehicle)
- Awaiting start (after the cable is connected)
- Waiting for authorization (if the charger is set to private)
- Ready to charge (Easee signals that charging can begin)
- Charging (controlled by the vehicle)
- Complete (controlled by the vehicle)
It is important to note that once the charger reaches “Ready to charge”, it is fully prepared to deliver power. From this point onward, the vehicle takes control and decides when to start and stop charging.
After this stage, the charger will not interfere with the charging session unless charging is actively stopped.
👉 Advice: If charging does not proceed as expected after reaching Ready to charge, the issue is most likely related to the vehicle, charging cable, or vehicle settings, rather than the charger itself.
In the following sections, each status will be explained in more detail. We recommend paying close attention to which status is shown in the app when experiencing issues, as this will help you identify where to begin troubleshooting.
Charging statuses where the charger offers power
Ready to charge
The charger is actively offering power to the vehicle, and the vehicle can start drawing power at any time.
If charging does not start, this may be caused by:
- a limitation in the vehicle’s internal system, or
- a potential issue with the onboard charger or charging cable
👉 Advice: Check the vehicle’s charging settings and ensure that no charging limits or timers are active. If the issue persists, try another cable or test with a different charger.
Waiting for the car
This status is commonly shown at the beginning of a charging session and indicates that the vehicle is preparing to receive power.
If the charger does not move past this status, it may indicate startup issues within the vehicle or onboard charger.
👉 Advice: Wait 5-10 minutes after connection the cable. If the issue continues, the vehicle’s onboard charger may need inspection.
Complete
The vehicle has reported that it is fully charged and does not request additional power.
If this status appears even though the vehicle is not fully charged, it may indicate a problem with:
- the charging cable, or
- the vehicle’s onboard charger
Please note that power is still being offered to the vehicle with status "Complete".
👉 Advice: Verify the vehicle’s reported charge level and charging limits. If incorrect, test with another cable or consult the vehicle manufacturer.
Charging statuses where charging is being held back by Easee
No car connected
This status means that the charger is not receiving confirmation that a vehicle is connected. The charger will not offer any power in this state.
If this status remains while the cable is connected, it may indicate an issue with the vehicle’s pilot signal or the charging cable.
👉 Advice: Check that the cable is properly connected on both ends. Inspect the cable for damage and try an alternative cable if available.
Waiting for schedule
This status indicates that charging is delayed due to a schedule or smart charging setup.
The charger will not offer power until the scheduled time or condition is met.
👉 Advice: Check active schedules in the Easee app or any connected third-party systems (such as energy providers or smart home setups) that may control charging times.
Paused
When the charger shows the status "Pause", it means that it has received a command to stop charging. Easee itself will only set your charger to pause if you manually press pause in the app.
In many cases, pause commands are sent from connected third-party systems, such as electricity providers or smart home solutions.
If the charger shows "Pause" without user interaction, it has most likely received a command from a third party.
A typical symptom is that charging starts but stops shortly after or immediately.
The charger will not offer any power in this state.
👉 Advice: Review which third-party services have access to your charger. Disable or adjust these integrations to prevent unwanted pause commands.
⚠️ Reboot charger - This will recalibrate the sensors in the charger.
⚠️ Test with a different vehicle and charging cable for a few hours. This helps eliminate the different potential sources of the issue.
During the testing period, we recommend avoiding major changes in the app or in the vehicle settings, as this may affect the results.
If charging is slower than expected
If charging starts but proceeds slower than expected, there can be several reasons for this.
